Darcie Deaville: FAQ'S

What is your "Octoblaster"?

What is your "Octoblaster"?

I'll get a photo of it up here as soon as I can.

I am always looking for different voices in the instruments I play, whether it's for live shows or recording. I love the octave mandolin, which is almost the same as an Irish Bazouki. It's an octave lower than a regular mandolin, tuned the same way. Although I use different tunings, just like I do on the fiddle.

I wanted an electric version of my octave mandolin. I went to my friend and luthier Dick Dubois, here in Austin, and together we designed just what I was looking for. Ed Reynolds, an electronic guitar whiz also in Austin, helped out with the pickups. It's a powerhouse and sweet!

When I get the photo up I'll tell you a little more about the pickups and the different voices it has.
