Darcie Deaville: FAQ'S

What kind of music do you play?

What kind of music do you play?

I play just about any kind of music, if someone asks me to. The music I write and record under my own name would be best classified as "Americana," or "Americana Roots." I played this kind of music long before there was a label for it! Americana is a combination of bluegrass, blues, rock & roll, country, and more. It's modern folk music.

Breaking what I do down a little more, when I am playing solo I often do old time music, fiddling and singing songs and tunes from the Appalachian Mountains. I will mix it up playing different instruments, and I'll play songs I wrote. My songs are rooted in this kind of music.

I've been in theatre and film productions playing jazz and classical music (although I definitely fake the classical). I have played on hundreds of other artist's CD's. Whether someone wants me to play pure country fiddle or a heavy metal solo, I can do it. I need to be able to fit into someone else's musical vision. I have many instruments, mostly stringed, they include a hurdy gurdy and an oud.

People usually call me to play fiddle, guitar, mandolin, and sing, but you can put just about any instrument in my hand and I can make something happen.
